Turn the Page, Norwich Artist Book Fair 2015

Tools down - all preparations complete for another two exciting days at the Forum, Norwich. Ammonites, boxes and Charles Darwin feature heavily in the work presented this year;

"If beautiful objects had been created solely for man's gratification, it ought to be shown that before man appeared there was less beauty on the earth than since he came. Were gracefully sculpted ammonites created that man might ages afterwards admire them in his cabinets?"  Charles Darwin.

I am always amazed how the creative process throws up surprises and how various strands of work come together - especially chance encounters that present themselves when you least expect. I had been thinking about the titles for pieces of work - trying to find a succinct explanation. Having got nowhere and stuck, I decide to leave it. While sitting drinking a cup of tea, I dipped into Rachel Carson's wonderful book The Sea Around Us,(a must read!). The book fell open on a page where this fabulous paragraph immediately leapt out - a eureka moment- that's it perfect!

"The sediments are a sort of epic poem of the earth. When we are wise enough, perhaps we can read in them all of our past history. For all is written here."

So beautifully stated and so apt. Do I need to say more?
