The Great Gathering
Having just returned from the Artist Book Fair in Norwich, the momentum to finish this project continues. Three of seven books are now complete, while the other four are taking shape and under way. These three books were well received by visitors and generated lots of interesting conversations. An older gentleman, initially bemused, was honest in saying "I don't get it". Rather than just walk away we had a long conversation about book art. He took the time to listen and ask about the project. After a short while he smiled replying "oh yes, I see". As exhibitor, it is moments like these that are so meaningful - someone has taken the time to reflect and be open to a new perspective.

In recognition of World Earth Day (April 22nd) the Earth Vision Institute invited artists to post images of what inspires them. Founded by James Balog, the organisation was set up to "integrate art and science to reveal environmental change and inspire a balanced relationship with nature". Much of my work over these past few years has been inspired by the work of this team. It was a delight to contribute to the occasion, and a lovely surprise to come third in the competition. Their work continues and can be followed at www.earthvisioninstitute.org/ This was part of a series of hand made pages which had text incorporated in the paper pulp. They were called 'Are we Listening?' Inspired by the retreat of glaciers and dissolving ice, I wanted to convey how words can also be lost if we do not listen or pay attention to what is happening around us.
