This is my initial response.
I am thinking about making three books which are a response to moments in time. Books that form a dialogue with each other Starting with the shock of the explosion and ensuing destruction .I see this as a time when words desert us. There are no words to adequately describe, just raw emotion. This will be followed by a book in which we search for understanding, and begin to find language.. Finally book three will response to resilence, what survives, and endures. What can not be destroyed.

After recieving a link from Karen Apps, I am pleased to be involved with the Al-Mutanabbi Project. The project involves submitting three books, in response to the bombing of Al-Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad five years ago. Al-Mutanabbi Street is well known as the heart of booksellers,printers calligraphers, and interlectuals. Thirty people were killed, many more injured. The street was devasted by the blast. The project brings together book artists from a number of countries. The work will be shown across America, Britain, and Europe.
It is planned to give a complete collection of 130 books to the Iraqi National Library. Ideas are begining to take shape, and will be posted as they progress! |
