Before The Beginning.

"Unknown to us there are moments,
When crevices we can not see open,
for Time
to come a alive
with  Beginning."

John O'Donohue, Conamara Blues, 2000.

Before the Beginning is a hand painted book inspired by the opening lines of a poem of the same name by John O'Donohue. Painted on various Himalayan papers, the colours of earth and fire suggest a weight, and density to the work. This is in contrast to the actual lightness of the tissue papers used. It is as if they are  fragile, the remains of charred leaves, which could so easily be blown away. The book is contained within a painted folio cover.

Himalayan Papers, Ink, Letraset.
Size 40cm x 27cm.
